Welcome to The Wine Bar at Old Oxford House, Hebden Bridge’s irresistibly original venue where indulging in life’s simple pleasures is the order of the day.
Our beautifully preserved gothic revival venue hides an unexpectedly contemporary meeting place, where the very best in art and design create an intimate space as comfortable as it is unique. Stylish yet understated, we like to think we’ve created the perfect backdrop against which to soak up the atmosphere in that rarest of things – a wine bar that thrives on nothing more than its reputation for great wines, delicious food and a subtle charm that makes conversation flourish and departing a thing to postpone.
The Wine
Just as you’d expect, we’re genuinely passionate about every wine we serve at Oxford House. We stake our reputation on a hand-picked selection of exquisite wines representing some of the world’s finest vineyards. With a little help from the award-winning team at the Halifax Wine Company, we’ve assembled an irresistible range of classic favourites together with a handful of less familiar vintages for those seeking something a little more adventurous.
What’s more, our wine list is as ruthlessly up-to-date as they come – if the new vintage of a reputable wine doesn’t make the grade, it doesn’t make it onto our wine list. It’s as simple as that.
The Food
Simple yet inventive, our mouth-watering tapas selection forms the perfect accompaniment to the bar’s carefully chosen winelist. Freshly prepared using ingredients sourced from both local and international suppliers, each dish combines beautiful presentation with unforgettable natural flavours. As well authentic tapas classics, we’ve used a little inspiration and some unexpected combinations to create enticing signature dishes of our own.
Lunchtime visitors can also dine from our special daytime menu, whose more traditional dishes reflect the same celebration of flavour and presentation as our tapas.

The location
You’ll find us in the protected heritage site of central Hebden Bridge – one of the country’s most talked-about destinations and deservedly famous for its unique creative and cultural identity, breathtaking natural beauty and an undeniably cosmopolitan feel that belies its scale.
Just a stone’s throw from the town’s popular art-house cinema and an intriguing selection of independent shops, galleries, and boutiques, we’re as easily reached by road as we are by regular public transport from Leeds, Manchester and the surrounding area.
Halifax Wine Company
We take great pride in the wines we serve at Oxford House, so it’s only natural that when it came to choosing a supplier, we put our trust in the capable hands of the team at the Halifax Wine Company. Under the watchful eye of owner Andy Patterson, the team is justly famed for its astonishing knowledge and a genuine passion for sourcing the finest vintages of the world’s finest wines – a fact borne out by a string of prestigious awards:
- Regional Wine Merchant (North East) – International Wine Challenge, 2005
- UK Specialist Merchant for Portuguese Wines – International Wine Challenge, 2004 & 2005
- Overall UK Wine Merchant (runner-up) – International Wine Challenge, 2005
- UK Spanish Wine Specialist (Which? Wine Guide), 2005
There’s no doubt about it, Andy has a nose for a good vintage. With 26 years’ experience and an intuitive appreciation of what makes a great wine great, he’s helped us create an exciting yet unpretentious collection of some of the world’s most enjoyable wines. From the classic appeal of our Merlots and Sauvignon Blancs, to more esoteric choices including Malbec, Colombard and prestige wines like the Pouilly Fume, the wines that make it onto our list are linked by nothing more than their consistent high quality and eminently drinkable nature.
